The playbook

Bachelor party golf, done right

The golf is the reason everyone said yes. Do not let a clipboard and a group text ruin it. Pick a format that fits your crew, layer in the side games that keep every hole interesting, and score the whole thing live so the winner is never in doubt. Here is the plan.

Pick the format for your crew

The one rule: match the format to the range of abilities in the group. A scramble hides the shaky players and lets everyone contribute, which is why it is the perfect opener. Once the group is warm, a best ball or a flighted match rewards good play without burying the higher handicaps. If it is a tight foursome of similar players, singles match play or a Nassau is all you need.

If it is a bigger crew that wants a real rivalry, run a Ryder Cup: split the group into two teams with captains, groom against groom, and play four-ball, alternate shot, and singles across the trip. Nothing gets a bachelor party more fired up than a team match with a cup on the line. Kick it off with a live team draft: captains pick their teams in a snake order, each pick on a clock, with team balance shown as the board fills. It is a fantasy draft night for the trip, and it sets the tone before anyone tees off.

The side games that make it

The format decides the trophy. The side games decide whether every hole matters, and on a bachelor trip they matter a lot. Run skins across the whole field all weekend so one good hole pays. Add wolf or vegas inside a group for the big swings, and keep junk (greenies, sandies, barkies) and the snake running for the needle. Every one has a free calculator if you want to try the math first.

The calcutta is the night before

The single best way to get a big group invested is a calcutta: the night before the trophy round, everyone drafts a horse and now every player has a rooting interest in someone else's round. Skins Golf records the draft and the results as points and keeps the board. It tracks the game for reference only and never touches money, so how the group settles up is between the group.

A sample two-day plan

Night one: draw the calcutta over the first round of beers. Everyone leaves with a horse.

Day one, the warm-up: a scramble in groups of four. Nobody blows up the group, the slow players relax, and skins run across the whole field so there is money on every hole. It sets the tone without deciding anything.

Day two, the trophy: the real match, best ball or singles, flighted so every ability has a live shot at winning. Junk and the snake run all day, the calcutta pays out on the final board, and you hand over the trophy on the 18th green.

Still picking the destination?

Where you go is half the battle. The Bucket List, a golf trip search engine built into Skins Golf, helps the group settle on where to play, coming soon. Finalize the trip and it hands straight off to the event you are about to run, so the place and the tournament are one and the same. It is a search engine, not a booking site: we never take a commission or a cut of any booking, and we never handle your money. It comes with premium membership, funded by members, not by your trip.

Run the whole thing from your phone

This is the part that usually falls apart. Do not be the guy doing math in the Notes app on the drive home. In Skins Golf you build the event once, everyone scores from their own phone, and the side games, the calcutta, and the trophy settle themselves. A public leaderboard follows along with a share code and no account, so the group that finishes first can rail the group behind them, and the best man back home can watch the whole thing.

Do not want to configure it? Tell Alfred, our AI Director of Golf, something like "set up my bachelor party, twelve guys, two rounds, mixed handicaps" and it drafts the format, the flights, and the side games for you to approve. Alfred is in beta and getting sharper weekly.

Common questions

What is the best golf format for a bachelor party?

For a mixed group, play a scramble on day one so nobody blows up and everyone contributes, then a best ball or flighted match on day two once the group is warm. Run skins across the whole field the entire time for the needle.

What golf games should we play on a bachelor party?

Skins for the running action, wolf or vegas for team swings, and junk (greenies, sandies, barkies) plus the snake for the little stuff. Draw a calcutta the night before to put everyone on a horse.

How do you run a golf tournament for a bachelor party?

Pick a format by group size, set your side games, and score it live from every phone so the totals settle themselves. Skins Golf builds the event, keeps a public leaderboard the whole crew can follow, and crowns the winner at 18.

How many rounds should a golf bachelor party play?

Two is the sweet spot for a weekend: a loose scramble to start and a competitive round for the trophy. Add a short nine or a putting contest if you have the time and the legs.
