Stableford rewards consistency. Because a blow-up hole just scores zero instead of a big number, it keeps everyone in the round and is a favorite format for societies and member events.

Points = 2 − (net − par), floored at 0

Common questions

How does Stableford scoring work?

You earn points based on your net score on each hole: double bogey or worse = 0, bogey = 1, par = 2, birdie = 3, eagle = 4, albatross = 5. The most points wins, so a bad hole costs you a few points instead of wrecking your card.

What is the Stableford points formula?

Points = 2 − (net − par), with a floor of 0. Net score is your gross score minus the handicap strokes you receive on the hole.

What is a good Stableford score?

Playing to your handicap returns about 36 points over 18 holes. Anything above 36 means you beat your handicap that day.

What is Modified Stableford?

A pro variant (used at events like the Barracuda Championship) that rewards aggressive play with bigger swings: eagles and birdies are worth more, and bogeys or worse lose points.
