How does the snake pass?
Every time someone three-putts, they take the snake. It keeps changing hands all round, so the danger is three-putting late when there is no time for someone else to take it off you.
How much does the snake cost?
Whatever value the group sets. The final holder pays that value to each other player, so in a foursome a $5 snake costs the last three-putter $15.
